attention grabbing...

when you work in a creative industry, your path is crossed with a whole lot of talented and inspiring people like photographers, designers, stylists, artists, set designers, etc.  every now and again someone or something really catches your eye and demands your attention.  for me, that certain someone is kevin metallier and that certain something is his photography. do yourself a favour and visit www.kevinmetallier.com and while you're there pay particular attention to the london carousel image.  it's something else.

christmas for me this year meant some forced inspiration…

i love to sew, so this year i was given two books, one from my sister (material obsession two – shared inspiration) and the other from my best friend (sew la tea do).  with their own quilting requests in mind these books will keep me occupied for the best part of the new year.

material obsession two – shared inspiration (kathy doughty & sarah fielke) is filled with beautiful quilts, great photos and a helpful pattern sheet to follow. the instructions are all well laid out, the material and tools are all explained thoroughly and there are loads of helpful hints.

the quilts in this book are amazing with many hours and a whole lot of love put into them, with my sister wanting hers sooner rather than later, “good luck I say” as this will be a long term project.

in addition to this book sarah fielke also has a blog well worth visiting http://thelastpiece.typepad.com/the_last_piece/2009/04/material-obsession-two-shared-inspiration.html

sew la tea do (pip lincolne) is cool, first impressions of this book leave you wanting to pull out the sewing machine, create that play list and bake a batch of your favourite cookies.

for every project in this book there’s a pattern, outline of the tools needed and step by step instructions.  this book is great for anyone wanting to learn how to sew with all terminology and stitching techniques explained.  it has patterns for kids clothing, adults clothing and things to make for your abode.

the photography and layout of this book makes it worthy of a place in anyone’s book shelf (even those who don’t own a janome).
